Eating in Yelapa

7:00 a.m.

Everybody love the food in Yelapa especially if you are a seafood eater. Here are a few of our recommendations for all types of cuisine. Note: Yelapa is very informal place so fancy attire is a choice, definitely not a necessity. We don’t go to dinner in our bathing suits, but casual attire is just fine!

·         Tacos y mas: This is a great place for a reasonably priced meal consisting of a variety of yummy tacos and LARGE margaritas. Great Value!
·         Ray´s: They open in November and is a lovely place. Ray has a traditional Mexicn and seafood dishes. But if you need a break from Mexican, he also has hamburgers and pizza (we heard a really good reviews of his American food). On Sunday mornings, he serves a traditional dish called Birria, a Mexican meat stew with a variety of spices.
·         Café Bahia: The best place for breakfast. The place is owned by a New Yorker and all of her food is local, made from scratch and in season. The Oatmeal supreme is awesome! So is the granola. She also makes scones and other pastries from scratch. This is a great place to grab some coffee and grub before you head out of town as it is right at the end of the town pier.
·         Eclipse: This is another great place for inexpensive Mexican breakfast food and good coffee. The chilaquiles are supposed to be some of the best! Eclipse is located in town, just up from the town pier.
·         El Mangito: This is a great place for traditional and delicious, inexpensive food with a great staff. They are located a bit up the river (10 min walk from the Hotel Lagunita) and make a good place to stop by after a long hike to the waterfall. They also play live music all Thursdays
·         Pollo Bollo: They are known for barbeque and yummy chicken. Their grilled arrachera is excellent too!
·         Oasis: This place is best known for their ambiance and venue. They are located along the path and have a great bar and upstairs art galley where they sometimes play live music. They also have some of the best mango margaritas in town. Their menu is a bit pricier than the others but if you´re looking for a nice change of scenery this may be a good option.
·         Restaurant at Hotel Lagunita: This is some of the best food on the beach (Oasis on the Beach, Marlin´s, Rogelios, Angelina´s and Domingos are other good options). It is a little bit more expensive that the others but they have a great professional Chef and awesome Staff that can work that little extra and they take credit cards. Also if you’re in the mood try the raicillas from HUICHO he has the best Raicilla in Cabo Corrientes.
·         Vegetarian or Vegan: All of the places listed above have vegetarian options (and most likely vegan). However! There is a great , small place up river (30 minutes) as you walk toward the waterfall owned by a vegan woman (she´s not always open), and she grows and cooked a really nice homemade food, yummy fare! Her brownies are worth the hike. I can remember the name of the place or the woman but if you know it place shared with us.
·         Pie from the famous Pie Lady: Spot her along the beach carrying a tray of pies: coconut, pecan, chocolate, lemon, banana… Her pie is now $40 pesos a slice, it´s the same price for locals as it is for tourists, and believe me it well worth it!
Well if you have more opinions please share with us and I hope the list can help you in your trip to Yelapa.
